{"id":2487,"date":"2018-07-18T22:20:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-18T22:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rockford-rivets\/?p=2487"},"modified":"2018-07-18T22:20:00","modified_gmt":"2018-07-18T22:20:00","slug":"cooper-cain-named-all-star-game-starting-pitcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rockford-rivets\/2018\/07\/18\/cooper-cain-named-all-star-game-starting-pitcher\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooper Cain Named All-Star Game Starting Pitcher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kalamazoo, Mi. \u2013 <\/strong>South division manager Donnie Scott has named Rockford Rivets\u2019 pitcher Cooper Cain the south division starter on the mound in the Northwoods League All-Star game next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty big honor,\u201d Cain said, \u201cI didn\u2019t expect this coming here [to the Northwoods League], to even make this game, and then, to be named the starter, it\u2019s a big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cain was in a league of his own after his first four starts. His stat line involved a 0.32 ERA, a 0.54 WHIP, and a batting average against of .099. He was also named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night in each of his first four starts. Now the Valdosta State sophomore has a 1.34 ERA, and 50 strikeouts compared to only 14 walks.<\/p>\n<p>The Jacksonville, Florida native is the only Rivet playing in the all-star game next week. First pitch is on July 24<sup>th<\/sup>, at 6:30 CST.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockford Rivets are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
