{"id":878,"date":"2016-07-20T08:42:58","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T08:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rockford-rivets\/?p=878"},"modified":"2016-07-20T08:42:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T08:42:58","slug":"rivets-take-part-in-all-star-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/rockford-rivets\/2016\/07\/20\/rivets-take-part-in-all-star-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Rivets take part in All-Star game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong>KENOSHA, Wis.<\/strong> &ndash; The Rockford Rivets&nbsp;sent three players to the 2016 Northwoods League All-Star game on Tuesday night at historic Simmons Field in Kenosha.&nbsp; Arkansas pitchers Anthony Dahl and Kacey Murphy were joined by Rivets second baseman David Cronin (Illinois-Chicago) as the North division used a seven run first inning to defeat the South division 9-5.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDahl was called upon in the top of the first inning after Wisconsin Rapids right hander Chris Cooper was ineffective.&nbsp; The Rivets&rsquo; right handed pitcher went two-thirds of an inning and gave up two hits and two unearned runs while he walked two and struck out one.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCronin entered the game in the sixth inning, and in his first at bat singled into left center field.&nbsp; Cronin played shortstop for the remainder of the game and was 1-for-2 with a walk for the south team.&nbsp; Kacey Murphy did not make an appearance in the game.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>Rockford is a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League, which will play its 23rd season of summer collegiate baseball in 2016. The Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 150&nbsp;Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (Washington Nationals) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox), Jordan Zimmermann (Detroit Tigers), Curtis Granderson (New York Mets), Lucas Duda (Mets) and Ben Zobrist (Chicago Cubs).
