By Amanda Orlando<\/strong><\/p>\n ROYAL OAK, Mich \u2014<\/strong> After wrapping up his freshman season at Indiana University, pitcher Kellen English ventured to the Northwoods League in a standout way, becoming a consistent reliever for Royal Oak.<\/p>\n His reaction to being told his name was on the 2026 All-Star Roster was reflective of his experience on the mound.<\/p>\n \u201cI was super excited. It\u2019s been a long summer so far, but I\u2019ve been really proud of how I\u2019ve been playing, so it\u2019s cool to get some recognition,\u201d said English.<\/p>\n Appearing in 14 games during the Leprechauns\u2019 first half of the season, English recorded a 1.29 ERA and 21 strikeouts.<\/p>\n A factor that plays into his performance is his height. Standing at 6’9, the pitcher said that being tall creates an element of deception for his opponents.<\/p>\n \u201cIt makes the ball look a lot faster out of my hand and there\u2019s a little bit of intimidation too. I think hitters get in the box and I just look ginormous on the mound, and I like to think that gets in their head a little,\u201d said English.<\/p>\n Appearing in the closing innings for the Leprechauns, he has accounted for three saves this season, even amidst high pressure situations. He said that taking on the role that he has will further assist him in his future at Indiana.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the main reason coaches sent me out here: to get a ton of experience.
