Hunter Poe delivered 4.1 innings of strong pitching, and the trio of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/st-cloud-rox\/player\/?id=10178\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ethan Felling<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/st-cloud-rox\/player\/?id=10925\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lucas Harrington<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/st-cloud-rox\/player\/?id=9410\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Adam Trevino<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0finished the day.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tuesday saw a slugfest break out, with Bismarck earning a series split\u00a0on\u00a0an 18-8 victory.\u00a0St. Cloud saw its first home run of the season courtesy of Akin, and five other Rox players contributed an RBI to the cause. Six of Tuesday\u2019s nine starters recorded a hit in the game.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/st-cloud-rox\/player\/?id=10794\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Jacob Imoto<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019s first start with the Rox was scoreless, going two innings with no hits\u00a0and three walks.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Wednesday\u2019s\u00a0opener in Dickinson saw the Rox trail the entire game until Geislinger recorded a go-ahead two-RBI single in the top of the ninth, leading to an 8-5 Rox win. Geislinger\u00a0recorded four hits and\u00a0four RBIs in total on the day.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/baseball\/player\/?id=10729\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ethan Palumbo<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0pitched the longest outing of the season for the Rox to that point, going 5.1 innings and allowing five runs (four earned). Felling, Harrington, and Trevino combined for 3.2 scoreless innings, and Harrington struck out four of the six batters he faced.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thursday\u2019s game saw the Rox complete the sweep over the Big Sticks, winning 6-3.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/baseball\/player\/?id=10856\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tyler Holland<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, including taking home on a wild pitch.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/baseball\/player\/?id=10726\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Eli Campbell<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0walked twice and delivered several highlight-reel plays in his first start at catcher, including gunning down two Big Sticks runners at second base.\u00a0Four Rox pitchers combined\u00a0for seven scoreless innings after\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/baseball\/player\/?id=10727\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Jacob Galloway<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019s first start, spotlighted by 2.2 strong innings from\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/baseball\/player\/?id=10392\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">K.J. Hart<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Home Opening\u00a0History<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The St. Cloud Rox celebrate their 15<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0home opener Friday, facing off against the Bismarck Larks.\u00a0Since 2012, the Rox\u00a0are\u00a09-5\u00a0for their first home game of the season.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Rox have hosted Bismarck once previously for the St. Cloud home opener, in 2019, with the Larks winning the contest 9-6. That year the Rox went 44-20\u00a0but went 0-2 in the playoffs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Last season, the Rox\u00a0defeated the\u00a0Badlands Big Sticks in their home opener 4-3.\u00a0Hunter Day delivered seven innings of three-run baseball,\u00a0and Tanner Recchio scored late in the game on an Austin Haley sac fly to give the Rox the lead.\u00a0St. Cloud lost their home opener in 2024 to the Duluth Huskies\u00a010-6 but\u00a0had won four straight home openers prior to that.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Toney Toes The Rubber<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brock Toney will make his first appearance in a St. Cloud Rox uniform Friday night when he is given the starting assignment against the Larks. Toney comes from Grand Canyon University, making 12 appearances this spring. He recorded a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings of\u00a0work, but\u00a0did not make a single start.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Toney missed the 2025 season due to injury and before coming to Grand Canyon in 2024, he was with Central Missouri.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Petersen Makes Rox Debut<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Josiah Petersen will get his first crack on the rubber for the Rox on Saturday evening when he starts against the Larks. Petersen comes from Augustana University in Minnesota, alongside fellow teammates Carter Heinsch and Cal Schmelzle. Petersen made 16 appearances with three starts this spring for the Vikings, pitching to a 4.79 ERA in 35.2 innings. All three of Petersen&#8217;s starts went for five or more frames, with his season high being 6.1 in a loss to Minnesota State in mid-April.<\/p>\n<p>Petersen made just three appearances in 2025 for Augustana, all out of the bullpen. Only one of those outings was scoreless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rox Bats Sweltering to Begin 2026 Season<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Akin to the hot temperatures in Minnesota, the bats of the St. Cloud Rox have been steaming in the opening week.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jackson Akin\u00a0is 7-for-16 (.438) in the first four games,\u00a0with five extra-base hits and\u00a0five runs driven in. Akin is taking deep counts as well, drawing four walks thus far\u00a0and has just three strikeouts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Nolan Geislinger\u00a0is 6-for-14 (.429) to begin\u00a0play.\u00a0He has six RBIs and a triple in the first\u00a0week,\u00a0and\u00a0is getting on base in bunches with five walks and a hit by pitch with just two strikeouts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tyler Holland is\u00a05-for-12 (.417)\u00a0batting all over the lineup to start the year.\u00a0Holland has two runs scored and two doubles\u00a0with a walk and an RBI.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Owen Estabrook is 5-for-13\u00a0(.385)\u00a0to begin the year in three games played, with a big double on Opening Day\u00a0to highlight. Estabrook has walked\u00a0twice and driven in four runs.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New Men\u00a0at the Helm<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pitching coach Chris Garcia has assumed the role of interim field manager to begin the 2026 season. Permanent field manager Nick Studdard and assistant Beau Kirsch have been coaching an LSU-Eunice team that is competing in the Junior College World Series\u00a0in Grand Junction, CO, and both will return to their posts in St. Cloud on Sunday.\u00a0Garcia comes with experience from American River College, working as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Last year, Garcia helped the Beavers earn their first playoff berth in 20 years.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In comparison, Bismarck has a first-year field manager in Chris Monroe on the top step.\u00a0Monroe is currently the hitting coach for the Missouri Western State Griffons.
