{"id":15681,"date":"2023-06-07T00:03:31","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T04:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/thunder-bay-border-cats\/?p=15681"},"modified":"2023-06-07T00:05:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T04:05:09","slug":"big-crowd-lead-cats-to-home-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/thunder-bay-border-cats\/2023\/06\/07\/big-crowd-lead-cats-to-home-win\/","title":{"rendered":"BIG CROWD LEAD CATS TO HOME WIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">It&#8217;s been four years since the Thunder Bay Border Cats played a home opener and local baseball fans came out in full force on Tuesday at Port Arthur Stadium as a crowd of 2,381 cheered on the Cats to a 6-3 win over the Duluth Huskies.\u00a0 \u00a0The Cats jumped out to 6-0 lead thanks to a pair of three runs innings in the second and third frames as Thunder Bay improved its record to 3-4. Thunder Bay native Jack Pineau (Creighton University) got the start on the mound and pitched into the fifth inning, allowing five hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts.\u00a0 Pineau was aided by a diving catch in the top of the second inning by centre fielder Logan Johnstone (Gonzaga University) with two outs and the bases loaded to keep the Huskies off the board.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Whitby, ON, righthander Griffin Catto (Jefferson College) picked up the win in relief and Kannon Carr (Jefferson College) had another solid outing out the bullpen as he pitched 3 2\/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to earn his second save of the season.\u00a0 Tyler Kehoe (South Alabama) and Dalton Mullins (Angelina College) both drove in a pair of runs each as the Cats managed only five hits in the victory.\u00a0 Game two of the four-game series goes Wednesday night at 6:35pm with Caden Fiveash (Oklahoma College-Tonkawa) taking his 1-0 record to the mound for the Cats.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also Weenie Wednesday with 2-for-1 hot dogs all game long courtesy of Superior Foods.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<p>\u00a0<span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">###<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_ContentPasted0\"><i class=\"x_x_x_x_ContentPasted0 x_x_ContentPasted0 x_ContentPasted0\">The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players.
