The Thunder Bay Border Cats finished up their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record after falling 7-0 to the Eau Claire Express on Tuesday night at Carson Park.\u00a0 The Border Cats are 15-11 and now tied with the Express for top spot in the Great Plains East Division with the two teams meeting again over the next two nights at Port Arthur Stadium.<\/div>\n

On Tuesday, the Express raced out to a 3-0 lead through two innings and tacked on four more runs in the sixth.\u00a0 The Cats managed only four hits on the night with Cole Ketzner (South Alabama) going 2-for-4 at the plate.\u00a0 Robert Spencer (Texas A&M University-Kingsville) started for the Cats and took the loss dropping his record to 1-1.\u00a0 The righthander gave up three runs on four hits and three walks over 1 2\/3 innings.\u00a0 The Cats are still 7-3 over the past 10 games heading into a six-game homestand that will conclude the first half of the schedule and determine the division winner that will punch their ticket into the NWL playoffs beginning August 13th.<\/div>\n
Thunder Bay’s Jack Pineau (Creighton University) is the scheduled starter on Wednesday against the Express with first pitch set for 6:35pm.\u00a0 It’s Weenie Wednesday with 2-for-1 hot dogs presented by Superior Foods and fans will also have a chance to win free passes to Country On The Bay courtesy of Country 105.<\/div>\n

A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 325 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (NYM), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019\/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2021 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove winner and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX).
