The Thunder Bay Border Cats dropped their second straight to the Eau Claire Express and their fourth in a row overall following a 7-5 loss on Wednesday at Carson Park.\u00a0 Thunder Bay and Eau Claire finished the season series with four wins apiece. The Cats got off to a good start with a three-run first inning and the game was tied 4-4 before the Express scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to go up 6-4. The teams traded runs in the eighth with the Express tacking on an unearned run for insurance in their final at-bat to round out the scoring.\u00a0 Billy Humphrey (Western Illinois University) took the loss in relief to fall to 4-1 as he gave up five hits and four runs (three earned runs), over two innings.<\/div>\n

Newcomer Ryder Hernandez (Texas State University), Tyler Griggs (Gonzaga University), Cole Ketzner (South Alabama), and Logan Johnstone (Washington State University, all had two hits in the loss while Peter Fusek (Western Illinois University) had a two-run double in the first inning.\u00a0 Thunder Bay is 0-2 in the second half and 17-17 overall on the season.<\/div>\n
The Border Cats return home to open a four-game series on Thursday at Port Arthur Stadium against the Rochester Honkers at 6:35pm. It’s “Thirsty Thursday” with $5.00 tall boys from Sleeping Giant Brewery for all fans 19-years of age and older.<\/div>\n

A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 325 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (NYM), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019\/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2021 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove winner and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX).
