The Thunder Bay Border Cats hung tough against the Rochester Honkers, but fell short losing 5-2 before a Friday night crowd of 974 at Port Arthur Stadium.\u00a0 The Honkers took advantage of walks and scored four runs in the third inning with the big blow a bases loaded double by Mattie Thomas (University of San Francisco).\u00a0 With the score 5-0, Daylan Pena (Texas State University) brought the fans to their feet with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, his first of the season, but the Cats couldn’t get any closer.<\/div>\n

Kyle Gearding (Case Western Reserve University) suffered his first loss as he gave up four runs on four hits and three walks over 2 1\/3 innings.\u00a0 Thunder Bay native Will Droll (University of Pittsburgh) had another stellar outing out of the bullpen as he pitched two scoreless innings and struck out five Rochester batters.<\/div>\n
The Border Cats and Honkers play game three of their four-game series on Saturday at 6:35pm.\u00a0 Evans Hendricks (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) is the scheduled starter on the mound for Thunder Bay.\u00a0 The lefthander has made four starts on the season and is 0-0 with a 4.60 ERA.<\/div>\n
