The Thunder Bay Border Cats closed out their six-game road trip in Waterloo, Iowa on Friday, losing a tough one, 8-3 to the Bucks at Riverfront Stadium.\u00a0 The game was tied 2-2 before the Bucks erupted for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the hottest team in the Northwoods League won their ninth straight game.<\/div>\n

Evans Hendricks (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) started on the mound for Thunder Bay and went 4 2\/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.\u00a0 Thunder Bay’s Will Droll (University of Pittsburgh) was the first arm out of the bullpen and the southpaw pitched two-plus shutout innings extended his scoreless inning streak to 13 1\/3 innings.\u00a0 However, Droll gave up five runs in the last of the eighth to take the loss as his record slipped to 0-1.<\/div>\n
Logan Johnston (Washington State University) had two hits, including a double and a sacrifice fly, while Cole Ketzner (South Alabama) and Ryder Hernandez (Texas State University) also collected two hits on the night.<\/div>\n
The Border Cats return to the friendly confines of Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday for a four-game homestand where they have a 12-10 record.\u00a0 Thunder Bay native Jack Pineau (Creighton University) will be on the hill against the Mankato MoonDogs in the opener of a two-game weekend set.\u00a0 Pineau is 1-1 with a stellar 3.24 ERA in seven appearances on the season. First pitch is set for 6:35pm, but gates open early with a special pregame concert starting at 5:00 featuring Tim Albertson on Country Night presented by Country 105.<\/div>\n

As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019\/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2021 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove winner and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX).
