Mike Long (Maryville University) was a new arrival to the Thunder Bay Border Cats lineup on Monday night and the St. Louis, Missouri native made quite the first impression on manager J.M. Kelly and the 989 fans in attendance at Port Arthur Stadium.\u00a0 Long homered in his first ever Northwoods League at-bat, a solo shot over the left field fence in the second inning, however the Border Cats dropped a 12-2 decision to the first place Lacrosse Loggers.\u00a0 Long ended up 2-for-4 at the plate in his debut and Blake Warner (Viterbo University) went 3-for-4 as Thunder Bay’s overall record fell to 27-36.\u00a0 Karson Krowka (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) and Cade Marquardt (Briar Cliff University) also had two hits apiece.<\/div>\n

Thunder Bay’s Will Droll started on the mound for the Cats and went six innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while also striking out six.<\/div>\n
The Border Cats play their final home game of the season Tuesday at 6:35pm against the Loggers.\u00a0 Michael Pirrello (University of California-Irvine) will get the start on the mound.\u00a0 The righthander has appeared in 13 games this season and is 1-1 with a 3.51 ERA. The Thunder Bay Border Cats are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 325 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (NYM), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019\/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2021 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove winner and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX).
