{"id":16926,"date":"2026-05-30T23:38:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T03:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/thunder-bay-border-cats\/?p=16926"},"modified":"2026-05-30T23:38:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T03:38:16","slug":"cats-sweep-express","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/thunder-bay-border-cats\/2026\/05\/30\/cats-sweep-express\/","title":{"rendered":"CATS SWEEP EXPRESS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The Thunder Bay Border Cats evened their record at 3-3 on Saturday as they stopped the Eau Claire Express 7-2 to sweep their opening two-game home series.\u00a0 The Cats broke open a 1-0 game with a three-run fifth inning, and then leading 4-2, the home side put the game away with three more runs in the bottom of the eighth.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Carson Small (University of New Orleans) picked up his first win as he tossed five innings of shutout ball, giving up four hits, and striking out eight.\u00a0 The lefthander has yet to give up a run in nine innings this season.\u00a0 Lucas Mercado (Ouachita Baptist University) notched his first save as the southpaw pitched three innings, allowing one run, while striking out five.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Dante Smith (North Dakota State University) raised his season average to .400 as he\u00a0 doubled twice and drove in two runs.\u00a0 Jorge Valdes (Xavier University) had two hits in his Border Cats debut and also knocked in a run, while Gamble Bye (Eastern Oklahoma CC) chipped in with two hits and a run scored.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The Border Cats will meet the Express again Sunday in Eau Claire to open a two-game set at Carson Park at 4:05pm ET.\u00a0 Luke Bryant (Ohio University) will take to the mound for the Cats, who return home Tuesday to open a six-game homestand against the Minnesota Mud Puppies at 6:35pm.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Thunder Bay Border Cats evened their record at 3-3 on Saturday as they stopped the Eau Claire Express 7-2  [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":16928,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[57,41,52],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-16926","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-permanentslider","category-team-news","category-update-ticker"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.5 (Yoast SEO v26.5) -
