The winning streak ended at three games for the Waterloo Bucks. After yesterday’s game was postponed due to rain, the Bucks (4-1) lost the first game of today’s doubleheader against the Battle Creek Bombers (2-3) by a score of 3-5. But as much as a loss hurts, Waterloo’s response in the form of a 6-3 game two win was a huge silver lining.<\/div>\n
The first game saw the Bucks get into an early 3-1 hole in the first inning; a hole that they were unable to dig themselves out of. Losing pitcher Steven Richardson pitched six innings for the Bucks and allowed five runs off of five hits. Richardson also threw two strikeouts in the loss. Josh Valle was awarded the win for the Bombers after allowing only two runs off of six hits. Bombers’ reserve pitcher Nate Blankemeyer was credited with the save.<\/div>\n
Waterloo’s offense also struggled in game one. The Bucks put up only three runs which is their lowest total so far this year, recording seven hits but only three runs. DH Zach McCool, 3B Brandon Williams, and RF Nick Anderson recorded RBIs for the Bucks, but they couldn’t keep up with Battle Creek’s seven total runs.<\/div>\n

Game two, however, was a different story. After four scoreless innings Battle Creek jumped out to a 3-0 lead. But the Bucks stayed tough and stole the show with five runs in the seventh inning.<\/div>\n
Scott Lieser pitched four strikeouts in six innings before being awarded the win. Relief pitcher Luke Putz stepped in to finish the game out in the seventh inning, pitching one strikeout and holding the Bombers hitless on his way to his second save of the season. Bombers pitcher Dan Holcomb’s was handed the loss after allowing four runs in the seventh inning.<\/div>\n
Waterloo’s offense also came to life in game two. The Bucks scored six runs off of eight total hits in game two. Catcher Jeremy Lucas (pictured above) recorded three RBIs off of a seventh inning double. Waterloo also got RBIs from LF Tyler Spillner, 1B Phil Keppler, and 3B Brandon Williams.<\/div>\n
