The August 6 double header ended with a split 1-1 between the Waterloo Bucks and the Battle Creek Bombers. In the first game, the Bucks battled to keep their early lead and pulled off a 6-5 win. In the second game the Bombers tied the score up in the third inning and after extra innings, walked away with a 4-3 win.<\/p>\n
In game one, Bucks bats exploded in the second inning knocking around six hits and six runs. 3B Brandon Williams (pictured) lead the team going three-for-three at the plate with one run scored. C Jeremy Lucas also had a big night at the plate smashing his first homerun of the season bringing in three runs. SS Andrew Ewing went two-for-three, hitting a two doubles and earning a single run. Other Bucks with hits were LF Landon Anderson, 2B Tyler Robbins, HD Ryan Rieger, and RF Nick Anderson.<\/p>\n
In the field Bucks played solid defense with only one hiccup by SS Andrew Ewing. C Jeremy Lucas fired down to second catching Battle Creek’s Andrew Lawrence in the steal. On the mound, Taylor Massey started for the Bucks throwing for just over four innings. The Dallas Baptist hurler allowed seven hits and five earned runs but took down five Bombers at the plate. Massey’s ERA moved to 1.86. Reliever Steven Richardson came in for shy of two innings allowing only one run, striking out two and earning the win. Closer Luke Putz earned himself another save, keeping the Bucks lead and striking out one. John Morrison, starting pitcher for the Bombers, was given <\/p>\n
Game two started after a short rain delay, but it didn’t quench the Bucks’ fire. Starting off strong, the Bucks took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. CF Willie Argo and RF Nick Anderson both went two-for-four at the plate, RF N. Anderson also earned a run and CF W. Argo brough a runner in. LF Landon Anderson, 2B Tyler Robbins, 1B Jake Astor, C Jeremy Lucas and SS Andrew Ewing all had hits. LF L. Anderson and 1B J. Astor pounded out doubles to move the Bucks around the bases. Hot on the bases, CF Willie Argo stole third on the Bombers, putting him in scoring position, but was left stranded. Even though the bats were rattling, it wasn’t quite enough for the Bucks to claim the win.<\/p>\n
Two Bucks, Ben Cottrell and Cody Johnson, made their Northwoods League debuts. Starting pitcher Ben Cottrell threw six innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs. Cody Johnson pitched a single inning, giving up two hits placing a runner on the bases for closer Matt Grabowski who gave up one hit that brought in the winning run. Cody Johnson received his first loss of the season. Battle Creek pitcher, Anthony Sambula was credited with the win.<\/p>\n
