The Waterloo Bucks took on the Madison Mallards Tuesday, August 10 at Riverfront Stadium. After battling for five innings, a down pour swept through Waterloo, washing out the game. Mallard were given the 8-6 win.<\/p>\n
The Mallards took the lead quick in the top of the second and the Bucks automatically retaliated in the bottom closing the gap. LF Pat Stover and 3B Brandon Williams were put in scoring position with SS Andrew Ewing’s single to right field. With bases loaded C Jonathan Crist (pictured) cranked a double to centerfield bringing in two runs. RF Landon Anderson knocked Crist around with his single to left field. <\/p>\n
With Mallards still in the lead by one, the Bucks hiccupped in the fourth allowing them three additional runs. The Bucks weren’t willing to accept defeat and took control at the plate pounding out placing five Bucks on base and scoring two runs bringing the fifth inning to a close with bases loading and trailing by two. <\/p>\n
Starting pitcher Paul Twining was giving the loss after throwing for two innings giving up four hits and five runs and striking out two. Will Strack took over for Twining in the third throwing only seventeen pitches before taking a line drive to his pitching hand removing him from the game. While on the mound Strack gave up two runs off of two hits and taking one batter down swinging. Eddie Medina took Strack’s place on the mound, shutting the Mallards down in the top of the fifth and restricting them to one run off of one hit and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n
With rain moving into Riverfront Stadium, the game was delayed and eventually called, closing the game at the end of the fifth and giving Madison Mallards’ Ryan Gorton the win.<\/p>\n
