Thunder Bay (ONT) David Kerian’s RBI single in the top of the 10th lifted the Waterloo Bucks to a 6-4 win at the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Sunday afternoon giving the team it’s first three-game winning streak of the season. Kerian had three hits while Jake Mahon, Kevin Needham and Tyler Peyton had two each.<\/p>\n
Waterloo never trailed in the game but had to recover from a Thunder Bay ninth inning rally that sent the game into extras. Leading 4-2 entering the ninth, the Bucks were unable to hold the lead as the Border Cats tied the game. <\/p>\n
However, Peyton led off the 10th with a single to left and moved to second on Marcos Calderon’s sacrifice bunt. After Chensy Young was intentionally walked, Kerian roped a line drive to right field in front of Alex Bautista who came up throwing to the plate. The ball and Peyton arrived at the same time, but Peyton was able to slide head first ahead of the tag of the catcher to put the Bucks ahead for good.<\/p>\n
Young would add an insurance run, scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning.<\/p>\n
J.D. Moore earned the win, throwing 2.1 innings of relief.<\/p>\n
Waterloo is now a season high three-games over .500 (7-4) and are tied with Duluth and Willmar atop the North Division standings.<\/p>\n
