Thunder Bay, ON – The Border Cats jump on the Bucks with eight unanswered runs and ride long reliever Vincet Segovia and his five innings of work with seven strikeouts out of the bullpen to earn the win in an 8-4 Thunder Bay victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Waterloo got off to a good start on offense in the top of the first inning. Mycah Jordan led off with a walk, then stole second. One batter later, Caleb Parker slapped a double down the left field line to plate Jordan and put the Bucks ahead 1-0. After a groundout, Nico Newhan grounded out to allow Parker to score to make it 2-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the first, Thunder Bay got those runs back. An error and a single put two on for Alex Kean, who doubled them both in to even the tally at two apiece.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the fourth, the Border Cats piled on. A double and a single led off the inning, then after a caught stealing, an infield single brought in the run from third to put Thunder Bay in front 3-2. Now up with two outs and the bases loaded, Lincoln Pack drilled a single to left to bring in a pair of runs to extend the lead to 5-2. An error allowed one more run to score to make it 6-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That was all the Border Cats pitching needed. Out of the bullpen in long relief, Vincent Segovia carved through the Bucks lineup. He struck out seven Waterloo hitters and allowed five hits in a scoreless outing en route to his first win of the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the seventh, Thunder Bay added on. A single and a double began the frame, then a hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. Next up, Stevie Waters laced a single to left for a couple of runners to score to push the lead to 8-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the Bucks scored twice in the top of the ninth, it was too big of a deficit to overcome as the Border Cats defended home turf in a 8-4 defeat of Waterloo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the loss, the Bucks go to 9-12 on the season and 1-2 against Waterloo in 2026. Games two and three of the four-game set are scheduled for Thursday morning at 11:05 am EST and 5:35 pm EST. Brody Zielinski and Tyler Bribiescas are the starters in game one with Cade Nolan and Makiao Cisneros on the mound in game two. <\/span><\/p>\n
