Eau Claire, WI –\u00a0 The Express dug themselves out of a late hole as they scored two in the bottom of the seventh and put six runs on the board in the bottom of the eight with some help from Jaxon Schumaker who crushed a go-ahead three-run home run to beat the Bucks 9-7 in the second half opener.<\/span><\/p>\n

After taking both games at Riverfront Stadium a week ago, Eua Claire got on the board first on Tuesday night. Cade Palkowski led off the bottom of the first ining with a walk, then with two outs, scored on Anthony Martinez\u2019s RBI single to put the Express in front 1-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the top of the second, the Bucks put up a crooked number. Dane Most doubled with one out, then came around to score on a fielding error to level the score at 1-1. After two walks loaded the bases, Micthell Iliff whacked a bases clearing double down the line in left to spring Waterloo on top, 4-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bucks starter, Gannon Wentz, took it from there. The right-hander went five strong innings and gave up just the one run. He struck out three hitters and allowed just one run on one hit..<\/span><\/p>\n

In the top of the third, the Bucks added on to their lead. With two down, Zach Davis legged out an infield single, then stole both second and third. Next up, Most blooped a single to center to plate Davis and grow the lead to 5-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the top of the sixth, Waterloo tacked on an insurance run. Bubby Dosztan-Campbell lined a single to center, then\u00a0 moved up to second on a wild pitch and tagged up to third. One batter, later, Chase Porter legged out an infield single to earn and RBI as Bubby crossed home to make it 6-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the top of the seventh, the Bucks added one more. MJ Sweeney led off with a single, then moved up on walk. Next man up, Dane Most, blooped an EBI single to center to bring Sweeney in to make it 7-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the last of the seventh, Eau Claire started on the comeback trail. Back-to-back base hits began the inning, then with two down, Mikey Muniz laced a single to right to plate both runs to chip away at the lead, 7-3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the eighth, the Express snatched the lead away. Two walks led off the frame, and both came home to score on a Sawyer Stein double to left to cut the lead to 7-5. One batter later, an error allowed a run in to slice the lead ot one. With two outs, a single and a hit by pitch set the table for Jaxon Schumaker who blasted a three-run home run to left to turn the tables on the game and take the lead 9-7. Olivier Martel came out of the pen in the top of the ninth to earn his fifth save in the win.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the loss, the Bucks go to 14-21 overall and 0-1 in the second half. Game two of the series against Eau Claire is set for Wednesday evening at 6:35 pm. AJ Price hurls the rock for Waterloo opposite Riley Fisher of the Express.<\/span><\/p>\n
