Thunder Bay, ON – The Bucks scored ten runs, including nine unanswered, thanks to Jake Slade\u2019s three hits and three RBIs, Anthony Massa\u2019s three hits and two RBIs, and John Wubben\u2019s first home run of the year to prop up a 10-6 victory over the Border Cats in the series opener Monday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

After sweeping the Huskies on Sunday afternoon, the Bucks offense got going in the top of the fourth inning in the series opener against Thunder Bay. Caleb Parker led off with a double, then scored on Jake Slade\u2019s one-out single to put Waterloo up 1-0. Next up, Jack Coluzzi served a single to right to put runners on the corners for Anthony Massa, who pulled an RBI single to left to bring Slade in to score to make it 2-0. One batter later, John Wubben singled up the middle and a fielding error allowed a run to score to make it 3-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the top of the fifth inning, the Bucks posted a crooked number. A walk and a single opened the inning, then Bubby Dosztan-Campbell put a ground-rule double over the wall in right to bring in a run to make it 4-0. One pitch later, Slade ripped a single back up the middle to bring in two to thrust the lead to 6-0. After a wild pitch, Massa dunked a single down to right to bring in Slade to make it 7-0. Finally, John Wubben blasted a two-run home run to right to cap the inning and power the Bucks to a 9-0 advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Border Cats dug into the lead. Bennet Crafton walked to lead off the inning, then scored from first on Stevie Waters\u2019 RBI double to put Thunder Bay on the board 9-1. After two walks, Jesus Vazquez blooped a single to left to plate one more run to make it 9-2. After a walk loaded the bases, Easton Joss and Jack Weiss worked walks to force in a couple of runs to cut the lead to 9-4.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the bottom of the sixth, Thunder Bay tacked on a couple more. A hit by pitch and a walk let two on to start things off, then a fielding error allowed a run in to make it 9-5. Next at the plate, Jacob Steinberg grounded into a fielder’s choice to let one more cross home plate to slice the lead to 9-6.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That was the closest the Border Cats would get as Waterloo added one more before Jackson Horras got the final six outs to finish off a 10-6 takedown of Thunder Bay on Monday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the win, the Bucks go to 28-36 overall in 2026 and 14-16 in the second half. Game two and the series finale in Thunder Bay is slated for 6:35 pm EST. Cole Bronell-Cuthrell makes the start for Waterloo opposite Collin Berry for the Border Cats.<\/span><\/p>\n
