\n\tWaterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced that catcher\/outfielder Matt Stemper has signed to play with the team for the 2015 season.   Stemper,\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"Matt<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\ta sophomore from the University of Minnesota, is the 24th<\/sup> player to be named to Waterloo’s roster for the squad’s 21st<\/sup> season.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLast season for the Golden Gophers, Stemper hit .297 in 37 at bats.  The 6’0”, 180-pounder finished with a .333 on base percentage and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t“Matt’s presence on the roster gives us a quality bat and the flexibility to use him as an outfielder or a catcher,” said Bucks general manager Dan Corbin.  “He comes to us suggested by former Bucks coach and current Minnesota assistant Patrick Casey.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThis season for the Gophers, Stemper is hitting .257 in 16 games.  A native of Burnsville, Minnesota, Stemper has two home runs, five RBI, and a .486 slugging percentage.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBorn October 14, 1993, Stemper attended Burnsville High School where he was named to the first team All-State and All-Conference squads.  Matt is the son of Bob and Deb Stemper.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Waterloo Bucks are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 22nd <\/sup>season of summer collegiate baseball in 2015, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (BOS) and Ben Zobrist (OAK).
