Thirteen Wisconsin Walks Lead to Eleven Madison Runs in 11-2 Rout <\/u><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\tWausau, Wis. – Wednesday night, the Lakeshore Chinooks put up 18 runs on 17 hits, including two doubles, two triples and a homer, in a lopsided result in Mequon. Thursday night, the Madison Mallards put up 11 runs on 11 hits, including four doubles and a homer, in a lopsided result in Wausau. The Wisconsin Woodchucks (24-45; 9-25) put up 12 hits of their own, but managed only two runs in an 11-2 Madison (36-33; 17-17) win, Wisconsin’s sixth loss in a row.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBoth starting pitchers tossed perfect firsts, but the pitcher’s duel did not last very long. Chuck starter Luke Hall walked three straight with one out in the second before Thomas Smart drew a bases-loaded walk and Cole Daily hit a run-scoring single to put Madison ahead 2-0.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tSteve Gavin made his first start of the year for the Mallards, and was punished for his one big mistake in the second. Yeager Taylor led off with a single and Mike Ferri lined a pitch over the left-field wall for his first home run of the summer, his third hit as a Woodchuck, to level the score at two apiece.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIt didn’t stay level for long. David Vinsky led off the third with a double and then Kevin Bolder walked two to load the bases before walking two more in a row to force in two runs. Bolder got one out before he walked Daily with the bases still juiced to force in another run and put Madison up 5-2.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBrogan Briggs came in for the fourth and Doran Turchin blasted a solo home run, his 12th<\/sup> of the year, to left to extend the lead. It didn’t stop there. Maverick Handley led off the fifth with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Briggs followed that by walking one batter and hitting another, and Tommy Bullock drove both in with a double to put Madison up 9-2.\n<\/p>\n\n\tBriggs allowed two baserunners in the sixth but kept the Mallards off the board for the first time since the first, but Madison got right back to it against debuting Chuck pitcher Carson Jacques in the seventh. Daily led off with a single and the Mallards loaded the bases again. Turchin drove in a run with a sac fly and Andrew Baker drove in another with a double to make it 11-2.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tDaily reached on another infield single against Jacques in the eighth but Madison couldn’t score. Kellen Rholl allowed a walk and a single in the eighth but Madison couldn’t score. The hits were there for Wisconsin: the Chucks put at least one man aboard in every inning except the first, led by a three-hit day from Ferri, but they could not score apart from Ferri’s dinger, and Madison comfortably won 11-2.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Chucks actually outhit the Mallards 12-11, helped by a pair of knocks from Taylor, Hunter Coleman and Aaron Soucy, but they could not turn those hits into runs. Madison, meanwhile, had every starter reach base in one way or another thanks to 11 hits and 13 Wisconsin walks, and every starter except one either drove in a run, scored a run, or both. Turchin had a perfect day to lead the charge with three hits, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThese two teams will duke it out for the final time this season Friday night at Athletic Park. Korey Rasure will make his final start of the season for the Chucks against Madison’s Tristen Bayless with the Mallards still very much in the thick of the South Division playoff race. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.\n<\/p>\n
