WILLMAR–Things didn’t go according to plan for the Stingers on Friday night at Bill Taunton Stadium as they dropped the second of three to the Duluth Huskies by a final score of 13-4. Things started poorly and just got worse for the Stingers, as Duluth got four runs in the top of the first inning off Willmar starter Charley Olson, bouncing the Stingers ace after just two innings.<\/p>\n

After Olson exited, Jeff Barto gave up a pair of earned runs in three innings before giving way to Michael Jahns, Daniel Zapata, and finally the Stingers’ do-everything man, Matt Serna. The Illinois-Chicago junior had already played seven defensive positions for Willmar this year, but in the blowout loss, he made his debut on the mound. Pitching for the first time since his freshman year of high school, Serna threw a scoreless ninth, facing just four Duluth batters.<\/p>\n

Up next for the 29-25 Stingers, it’s the rubber match of the three game set for Duluth on Saturday night at Bill Taunton stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. It’s summertime St. Paddy’s Night at the the ballpark, presented by Miller Lite. Former Dukes of Hazzard Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
