WILLMAR–It was a night to forget for Cedric Pomerlee and the Stingers on Tuesday night, as the Alcorn State lefty and the Stingers faltered early against the first half champion Rochester Honkers who scored seven runs in the first en route to an 11-2 win over Willmar at Bill Taunton Stadium. Pomerlee lasted just one third of an inning before St. Cloud State righty Logan Birr took over, allowing the final two Honkers runs in the initial frame.<\/p>\n
One night removed from a lengthy doubleheader in St. Cloud, which concluded early Tuesday morning, the Stingers’ bats never quite woke up against Rochester, as Willmar scattered five hits over the course of the game, two of which came from Pomerlee’s college teammate, DH Eduardo Gonzalez. Isaac Ballou and Gonzalez tallied the only two RBIs in the game for Willmar also got base hits from Brian Willson and Anthony Bemboom.<\/p>\n
With the loss, the Stingers bid adieu to power hitting outfielder Sean Dwyer who played his final game in a Stingers uniform this season on Tuesday night. Dwyer came into Tuesday’s game as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning, and got the final outs of the night for Willmar on the mound, pitching a one run ninth inning for the Stingers. Dwyer’s production will certainly be missed, as the San Diego Padres draft pick leaves tied for the team lead in home runs with three, and tied for third in RBI’s with 22.<\/p>\n
Next up for the 31-27 Stingers, it’s two more with the Rochester Honkers on Wednesday and Thursday before hitting the road for a two game stretch in Thunder Bay.
