{"id":3287,"date":"2016-07-07T04:16:56","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T04:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/willmar-stingers\/?p=3287"},"modified":"2016-07-07T04:16:56","modified_gmt":"2016-07-07T04:16:56","slug":"stingers-wham-slam-three-homer-night-yields-fourth-straight-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/willmar-stingers\/2016\/07\/07\/stingers-wham-slam-three-homer-night-yields-fourth-straight-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Stingers wham slam: Three-homer night yields fourth straight win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong>WILLMAR, Minn.<\/strong>&nbsp;&mdash; Danny Mayer has provided a jolt offensively for the Stingers since he got to Willmar a week ago, and he took that to another level on Wednesday night.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMayer (Pacific) went deep for the first two times this season and drove in three runs, and the Stingers scored 10 runs for the fourth time in the last seven games in 10-7 win over the Rochester Honkers at Bill Taunton Stadium.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAfter a road trip that saw Willmar (19-18, 1-0 second half) score 56 runs in six games, the offense kept it going when it returned home, putting up 12 hits and tying a season-high with three home runs in the series opener against the Honkers (7-29, 0-1).&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWillmar fell behind 4-0 after the top of the second inning, but Mayer got the offense going in the second and it didn&#039;t slow down from there. Mayer led off the second with a solo shot to left field to cut the deficit to three.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Stingers would go onto score nine more runs, tallying in each of the next five innings. After Mayer&#039;s homer, Eddie Estrada (Minnesota) and Kole Cottam (Kentucky) doubled back to back to trim the deficit in half in the second.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWillmar added two in the third to tie the score, and then put up three in the fourth to take the lead for good. In addition to Mayer,&nbsp;Danny Pardo (Montevallo) and Estrada also had multi-hit nights. Pardo had his second home run of the season in the fourth, a two-run moonshot to right that made it 7-4.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMayer finished the scoring with a two-run bomb to center in the sixth to stretch the lead to 10-5.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJayce Vancena (Michigan) picked up his fourth win of the year, a total that leads the Stingers. Despite allowing 12 hits, Vancena stranded nine guys on base in his five innings of work and walked just two.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMax Green (Pepperdine) finished the game with 1 2\/3 of scoreless ball, and retired the final three hitters he faced after loading the bases in the ninth.
