Willmar, Minn.-\u00a0 After an impressive outing by\u00a0Braden Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(Olney Central College) in Tuesday’s home opener (striking out 11), a win for Willmar 6-1. Louie Varland<\/strong>\u00a0(Concordia, St. Paul) shined in his own right on the mound in a 2-1 victory over the Rox in the series finale Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Stingers were led offensively by Davis Elliot<\/strong>\u00a0(North Alabama) and Richie Garcia\u00a0<\/strong>(Florida Gulf Coast) who both tallied RBIs.\u00a0John Trousdale\u00a0<\/strong>(Alabama) also impressed once again going 3-5, making him 6-8 through the first two games.<\/p>\n

On the hill Varland was spectacular matching his teammate Braden Scott for third most strikeouts in a game by a Stingers hurler, with 11 . The only blemish on his night was a solo homer given up in the sixth inning to St. Cloud first basemen Ryan Lillard <\/strong>(Arizona State).<\/p>\n

Although there was some trouble in the ninth, Jayson Newman\u00a0<\/strong>(CSUN) who was the designated hitter throughout the night came on and captures his first save of the season.<\/p>\n

The Stingers won the game 2-1, and improve to 2-0 on the season.<\/p>\n

The Stingers are in action tomorrow night to start a new series against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.<\/p>\n
