\n\tWisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are pleased to announce the signing of a pair of left-handed pitchers. Blake Myers (Memphis) and Jon Malmin (Texas) have both signed contracts to join the Rafters for the 2014 season.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\"MyersHead\"<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLHP – Blake Myers, 5’10”, 180 lbs (R\/L) Redshirt Junior<\/strong>
\n\tA teammate of fellow Rafters signee Nolan Blackwood, Myers has been spot on in relief for 10-1 Memphis so far this season. Thus far he has yet to surrender a run or a hit in four innings of duty while striking out two and walking one. He looks to expand his role with the Tigers after throwing 5.2 innings in eight games during his redshirt sophomore year at Memphis. His 3.18 ERA and his 7.94 K\/9 rate were a marked improvement from his freshman year. The former Memphis prep earned All-State honors as a senior and was named his team’s offensive player of the year his junior season. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Myers is double majoring in criminology and criminal justice.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \"MalminHeadshot\"<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLHP-Jon Malmin, 6’0”, 180lbs (L\/L) Freshman<\/strong>
\n\tMalmin began his collegiate career with an excellent outing in relief tossing 1 1\/3 scoreless innings, while only allowing a single hit in his debut with the Longhorns. A teammate of returning Rafters player Taylor Stell, Malmin was named District MVP and first-team All-State his junior and senior season. The all-purpose athlete also played three years of varsity basketball and football. The Troy, TX native is a part of the second ranked recruiting class in the country rated by Baseball America.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
