{"id":7229,"date":"2017-05-30T22:54:52","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T03:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/wisconsin-rapids-rafters\/?p=7229"},"modified":"2017-06-14T15:27:51","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T20:27:51","slug":"rafters-open-season-win-kingfish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/wisconsin-rapids-rafters\/2017\/05\/30\/rafters-open-season-win-kingfish\/","title":{"rendered":"Rafters Open Season with Win Over Kingfish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<b><u><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-size: 11pt\">Rafters Open Season with Win Over Kingfish<\/span><\/u><\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<i><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-size: 11pt\">Opening day festivities capped off with 3-0 victory and combined one-hitter<\/span><\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<i><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. &ndash; Pitching proved to be the story of opening night at Witter Field, with dominating performances from both sides controlling the bats.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Rafters downed the Kingfish, 3-0, to begin their title defense.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>Rafter&rsquo;s starter Jack Eagan threw six strong innings, striking out seven and allowing the lone Kingfish hit on the very first pitch of the game.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Kenosha offense was quieted by Eagan, along with reliever Cameron Busby who tossed two innings in relief with four strikeouts.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>The Rafters opened up the scoring in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> after the first seven Rafter batters were retired by Kenosha starter Colan Treml.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>Tyler Krabbe was hit by a fastball and advanced to second on a line drive single to left field by Shaq Robinson.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>The first run of the 2017 campaign was scored on a Bryson Stott blooper to centerfield, scoring Krabbe from 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and advancing Robinson to third.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>With runners on first and third a failed pickoff attempt to first dribbled into right field and resulted in the second run of the game, and the Rafters led after three full innings, 2-0.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>Scoring would subside until the bottom of the 8<sup>th<\/sup>, where the Rafters tacked on an insurance run on a Mitch Mallek drive to right field, which scored Jake Guenther.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Rafters carried a 3-0 lead heading to the 9<sup>th<\/sup> and handed the ball off to closer, Layne Henderson, who shut the door and brought the Rafters the first win of the 2017 campaign.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>Eagan earned the win, with Colan Treml garnering the loss.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>Treml finished the day with eight strikeouts and two runs in 6.1 innings of work.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>Layne Henderson picked up the save to finish off a strong outing from Rafters pitching.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>The Rafters will be back in action tomorrow night against the Kenosha Kingfish, first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp; <\/span>The world famous ZOOperstars will be performing <span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp;<\/span>presented by Paper City Savings.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<span>&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;margin: 0px 0px 0px 240px;text-indent: 0.5in\">\n\t<span>###<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px\">\n\t<br \/>\n\t<i><span>The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.<span style=\"margin: 0px\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/i><i><span>The 2<\/span><\/i><i><span>3<\/span><\/i><i><span>-year-old summer collegiate league is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 20 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
