Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks wrapped up the first half of the Northwoods League season with a lost to the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 12-5.
The Bullfrogs (17-18) continued their hot hitting beginning earlier in the day with a two-run home run by Johnny Bekakis. Bekakis was 3-for-5 on the day with just a triple shy of the cycle.
The Woodchucks (18-16) cut the lead with a bases loaded walk by Jake Scudder to cut the lead in half to 2-1. Scudder drew four walks on the day and ended up going 0-for-1.
The Bullfrogs broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning when they batted around and scored five runs. Woodchucks’ pitcher Austin Tribby struggled on the mound as he had trouble finding the strike zone and patient Green Bay hitters took advantage of that.
The Bullfrogs tacked on a total of five more runs throughout the game winning this one for a final score of 12-5. The Bullfrogs won the earlier game of the home and home double header 16-5 to sweep the day series.
The Woodchucks will have a much needed day off tomorrow as the entire Northwoods League does not a game scheduled for tomorrow as it is the end of the first half of the season. The Woodchucks will take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Wednesday at Athletic Park. First pitch will be at 6:35 pm.
