Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks won 9-2 over the La Crosse Loggers for the second evening in a row behind eight hits and another home run from right fielder Max Ponzurick Monday night.

The Woodchucks jumped ahead of the Loggers by scoring two runs in the second inning. Owen Taylor and LJ Hatch both walked before Daytona Bryden reached on an error to load the bases for Tanner Gragg. Gragg was hit by a pitch, and Mario Tursi singled to put the Chucks up 2-0.

After the Loggers scored one in the bottom of the second, Max Ponzurick hit his fourth home run of the season in the top of the third to extend the Chucks’ lead to 3-1.

La Crosse scored as well in the third to make it 3-2, but the Chucks got back on the board in the fifth. Ian Yetsko walked to open the frame. Then, Max Ponzurick singled, and Owen Taylor hit a 2-RBI double, pushing the Woodchucks’ lead to 5-2.

Wisconsin continued to add to their lead in the sixth. Gragg doubled, Mario Tursi singled and Nick Gotta walked, loading the bases for Ian Yetsko. The Woodchuck catcher delivered with his first hit of the season, a 3-RBI triple, which put the Woodchucks up by six runs.

Peter Jewell got the start for the Woodchucks and gave up just one earned run and five hits in four innings. Kevin Bolder, Eli Kraus and Ryan Day shut out the Loggers in the final five innings, securing the victory for Wisconsin.

The defensive play of the night was made by Max Ponzurick as he gunned down Mason McCoy at home in the first inning when McCoy tried to tag up on a deep fly ball to right.

The Woodchucks will go for a four-game sweep of the Loggers tomorrow night at Copeland Park with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
