Woodchucks Lose 11-9 to Growlers After Giving up Five Runs in Ninth

Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks had a 9-6 lead going to the ninth inning at Athletic Park Wednesday, but the Kalamazoo Growlers scored five runs in the ninth to win 11-9.

Jared Oliva had a big first game as a Woodchuck, recording five hits – two singles, two doubles and one grand slam – in the loss.

Max Ponzurick also hit his fifth home run of the season, a three-run bomb, which put the Chucks up 9-4 in the sixth inning.

The Growlers opened up the ninth with a walk, a strikeout and a single before Justin Fletcher tied the ballgame with a three-run homer. One batter later, Nick Yarnall hit one out of the park, setting up Kalamazoo for the two-run victory.

The Woodchucks and Growlers face off again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Athletic Park.
