Madison, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks rallied to tie the Madison Mallards in the ninth inning at Warner Park Friday, but the Mallards walked off with a 3-2 victory in the 12th inning.

Madison produced the first run of the ballgame in the fifth inning. Jean Ramierz led off with a double, and he scored on a fielder’s choice from Scott Tyler. The Mallards extended their lead to 2-0 on a solo home run from Scott Tyler in the eighth.

The Woodchucks rallied in the ninth to send the ballgame to extra innings. Yusuke Akitoshi singled with one down and Connor Heady followed with a double. Then, for the second consecutive night, Albee Weiss hit a clutch 2-RBI single.

Wisconsin kept the game tied until the 12th inning. Logan Browning pinch hit with two down and walked. Then, Logan Regnier singled, and Ro Coleman scored Browning with a double to right center field for a walk-off 3-2 victory.

Simon Mathews started for the Chucks on the mound and gave up just one run and three hits in six innings of work. The right-handed hurler from Georgetown also struck out four and didn’t give up any walks.

Kevin Bolder pitched four innings in relief and allowed just one run and four hits before Connor Kelly threw in the 11th and 12th frames. With the loss, the Chucks moved to 2-1 on the second half of the season and 14-24 overall.

The Woodchucks will play four of their next five games at home, starting tomorrow with another game against the Mallards. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m., and the contest will be followed with a special ‘Red, White and Boom’ fireworks spectacular at Athletic Park.
