Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks’ four-game winning streak was snapped Saturday as they fell 10-6 to the Thunder Bay Border Cats in ten innings at Athletic Park.

For the first time in over a week, the Woodchucks faced a deficit. Jared James led off the ballgame with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. He then scored on a single from Carter McEachern. The Border Cats extended their early lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the second inning.

Wisconsin cut into the lead in the second. Taylor Kohlwey singled to start the frame, and Troy Traxler and LJ Hatch followed with walks. Ryan Day grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Kohlwey. Ty Black brought Traxler home with a groundout to make it 3-2.

The Chucks took the lead in the third. With two outs, Mason Fishback was hit by a pitch and Kohlwey drew a base on balls. Traxler then drove a double to left center field, scoring both Fishback and Kohlwey and putting the Chucks ahead 4-3.

Thunder Bay re-gained the lead in the fourth. The Border Cats got four singles, and the Chucks committed one error before Wisconsin’s starter – Jared Skolnicki – was replaced by Reagan Biechler. Biechler limited the damage to three runs by inducing a double play.

Wisconsin tied the game up in the fifth. Yusuke Akitoshi and Albee Weiss opened the frame with singles. They moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from Kohlwey and proceeded to score on an error committed by Max Dutto, making it 6-6.

The ballgame remained at a stalemate for the four innings. Reagan Biechler kept Thunder Bay off the board by retiring eleven men and facing just ten batters. Connor Kelly and Robert Zeigler each threw one inning of scoreless and hitless ball to send the game to extra innings.

The Border Cat offense showed life again in the tenth inning. They got five hits in the frame, including a two-run home run from Tyler Green to go ahead 10-6.

The Woodchucks complete their four-game homestand tomorrow night at 5:05 p.m. with another contest against the Border Cats.
