Kenosha, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks were defeated by the Kenosha Kingfish 10-5 at Simmons Field Monday night.

The Woodchucks were in the hole early again. Kenosha scored two runs in the first. Zack Weigel walked and Alex Borglin tripled to score him. Borglin then scored on a ground ball to second base from Eric Filia.

Wisconsin came back with a run in the second inning. Keenan Eaton singled, and his hit was followed by back-to-back-to-back walks, the final of which was a hit by pitch for Ty Black. That scored Eaton and made it 2-1.

Kenosha scored three runs in the fifth to go up 5-1. However, Albee Weiss answered with a solo shot – his 12th home run of the year – to lead off the sixth inning. Mason Fishback followed with a double, but he was stranded on the base paths. Fishback finished with three hits, a run scored and an RBI.

The Kingfish had a big seventh inning, scoring five runs on three hits and one error. Filia delivered the biggest hit in the frame with a three-RBI double.

The Chucks chipped away at the lead in the eighth and ninth. Fishback singled and Troy Traxler reached on an error with one down in the eighth. Fishback scored on a sacrifice fly from Owen Taylor, and Ryan Day singled home Traxler. Taylor Kohlwey singled to open the ninth and scored on a fielder’s choice from Fishback, but that was it for Wisconsin offensively.

After seven different Woodchucks pitchers threw Sunday night, six Chucks took the mound Monday. Jared Helmich started and gave up one run in two innings. Kyle Dohy followed with two innings of scoreless ball. Jake McMahon had a particularly good appearance, striking out three men in a row to get the Chucks out of the seventh.

The Woodchucks and Kingfish face off again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Simmons Field, and the Chucks will follow that up with a doubleheader against the Green Bay Bullfrogs Wednesday at Joannes Stadium.
