Wausau, WIS – The Woodchucks came into tonight’s game at Athletic Park against the Green Bay Bullfrogs looking for the sweep and also looking to win their eighth game in the last ten. It was back and fourth all game long but the Chucks got a huge home run in the bottom of the 7th from centerfielder Zach DeLoach to break the 3-3 tie. The Chucks held on for the 5-3 win.
The Chucks struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning with another home run from Jaren Shelby. After the Bullfrogs tied things up in the top of 3rd, they then added two runs in the top of the 5th with back to back home runs to take a 3-1 lead.
Chucks starter Jake Gross kept the team in the game tonight going five innings, allowing three runs and striking out four.
The Chucks offense came alive in the bottom of the 6th inning with a huge two run shot to left to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the 7th inning, The Chucks got their third home run of the game to give the team a 5-3 lead.
Chucks reliever Alex Stodola was incredible out of the bullpen pitching three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Chucks closer Lenny Gwizdala was lights out again shutting the door down in the top of the 9th to secure his eighth save of the season. He is now a perfect 8/8 on save opportunities and has a 0.69 ERA.
Top Performers
Woodchucks right fielder Jaren Shelby contributed a solo shot in the bottom of the 1st to get the Chucks scoring going. Jaren also made an incredible diving catch in the top of the 9th. Shelby is on some surge at the plate and has now hit four home runs in the last five days.
Chucks third basemen Javier Valdes unloaded a huge two run homer in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at three. That was Javi’s team leading sixth home run of the season.
