Woodchucks Bats Fall Asleep Against Rafters

The Woodchucks bats were ice cold tonight, as they fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 7-0.

WAUSAU, WI- It was the Rafters who got on the board first. After a CJ Willis single in the bottom of the 3rdinning, Wisconsin Rapids executed a very well done hit-and-run in which a Jake Dunham single was good enough to bring Willis in to make the score 1-0.

Rapids extended their lead in the bottom of the 3rd, when Dunham came up again with runners on the corners. He hit a ball into deep right field that served as a sacrifice fly that brought Josh Nicoloff to make the score 2-0.

Meanwhile, the Woodchucks offense struggled. After getting a hit in the 1stinning, Rafters pitcher Nate Barnes started heating up, and the Chucks remained with just one hit after five innings.

The Woodchucks were finally able to get a few baserunners on in the 6thafter two-out singles from Brandon Seltzer and Alejandro Gonzalez, but were unable to score when Byron Murray ended the inning with a pop-out to 1stbase.

The Woodchucks fell apart in the bottom of the 7thinning. After getting the leadoff batter out, new pitcher Alec Arnone walked a couple batters and gave up a hit to bring up Jake Dunham with the bases loaded. He ripped a double to make it 4-0. After a few more walks and a wild pitch, the Rafters made the score 6-0 going into the 8th.

The Rafters used a few more walks and an error in the bottom of the 8thto go up 7-0.

The Woodchucks couldn’t get anything going in the 9th, and were shut out for the third time this season, falling to 18-19 on the year.
