MANKATO, MN – We’re under 30 days away from the inaugural Habaneros season and this season is looking to be quite promising. With another new addition to the team, the excitement is real as we count down the days until first pitch. Jessa Snippes, a Rosemount native, is looking to bring her championship mentality back to Mankato. Currently in her freshman year at the University of Minnesota, she aims to bring the same level of skill and success she demonstrated during her high school years.

Snippes was quite the standout player throughout her seasons at Rosemount High School. With a total of 213 at-bats, she had 44 runs, 27 doubles, and 20 home runs. She also averaged a .483 batting average, an on-base percentage of .587, and a slugging percentage of .498 throughout her four seasons as well. On the mound, her numbers are just as impressive with 587 strikeouts, a 1.15 ERA, and a 0.84 WHIP.

Not only did she produce impressive stats, but she led Rosemount to two Class 4A MSHSL State Tournament Titles in 2021 and 2023 along with three South Suburban Conference Championships, three 4A Section Championships. Along with those championships, she produced a notable list of accolades as well. 2023 was quite the standout year for Snippes. She was named PlayBall! Minnesota Ms. Softball, selected as the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, and named the Gatorade Minnesota Softball Player of the Year.

Snippes has been honored as an All-Conference, All-Section, All-Metro First Team and All-State player, a two-time East Metro Player of the Year finalist has been honored as the MSHSL 4A Postseason and Breakdown Player of the Year, she competed with the Illinois Chill and was previously with the Minnesota Magic. With the Magic, Snippes won seven State Championships, the 2019 Midwest Regional Championship, and were runners-up at the 2021 National Championship.

With such an impressive track record, Jessa Snippes is poised to make a significant impact with the Habaneros. Her history of excellence both at bat and on the mound, coupled with her championship pedigree, promises to bring a new level of excitement and competitiveness to the team. As the countdown to the season’s first pitch winds down, fans are eager to see Snippes and the team in action at ISG Field.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
