MANKATO, MN – An exciting day that was dubbed Softball Day in Mankato, the Habaneros split their first series against the Minot Honeybees.
Jessa Snippes (University of Minnesota) took the mound in game one going 4.2 innings, recording 6 strikeouts. Jenna Sprague took over for her locking down the game for the last inning and a third.
On the offensive side of the ball, 7 Habaneros got their first hit of the season, with Brooke Holmes (St. Cloud State University) going two-for-two with 3 walks.
Paige Zender (Iowa State) played hero in the game, launching a ball over the right field fence, putting the Habaneros up by 11 triggering a 10-run rule.
Game 2 of this double header saw Jayme Scheck (Drake University) and Sailor Hall (Kirkwood Community College) split duties on the mound.
Brooke Holmes continued her night at the plate with another hit, driving in a run.
The Habaneros and the Honeybees square off again tomorrow in another doubleheader.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
