MANKATO, MN – What a day from the Habaneros. They won their first game of the doubleheader against the Steam 15-2 by triggering the 10-run rule. Then went on to win the second in comeback fashion 6-4.

Brooke Holmes (St. Cloud State University) and Paige Zender (Iowa State) both brought in 3 runs to add to the lead and Zender added to her great summer so far with a double.

Madelyn Birling (Bryant and Stratton College) and Jessa Snippes (University of Minnesota) also each brought in a double. Four players brought in 2 runs to give the Habaneros their 13-run win over the Steam in the first game of the day.

Game two was just as impressive from the plate. There was a total of 4 doubles and Zender brought in a triple. Sailor Hall (Kirkwood Community College) had a standout game with 4 hits, three of those being doubles which brought in 2 runs in the 7th to secure the win.

The Habaneros will have one more game in La Crosse before they head back to Mankato to face the Night Mares on Thursday and Friday evening.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
