MANKATO, MN – Make that an 8-4 win for the Habaneros and the first-ever Northwoods League Softball Champions!

After a tough 10-6 loss last night, the Habaneros came out strong looking quite like the championships they are.

Sailor Hall (University of Minnesota, Mankato) earned her fifth win on the season, facing 12 batters with two strikeouts and ending her day at the mound with a 3.59 ERA.

Amity White (University of South Alabama) had a great afternoon with one run and three runs brought in at the plate after an impressive triple.

Jessa Snippes (University of Minnesota) and Madelyn Birling (Bryant and Stratton College) both had two runs on the day with Birling also bringing in three extra runs on her triple.

Hall, Brooke Holmes (St. Cloud State University), and Savannah Teale (Kentucky State University) all added a run to secure the win and championship for the Habaneros.

Game two of the doubleheader against the Night Mares was another impressive showing from the Habaneros as they won 18-9.

Jenna Sprague (Washburn University) earned her seventh win on the season as she faced 25 batters with three strikeouts and only allowed two walks. She ended the night on the mound with a 2.98 ERA.

White also had a great night as she scored five runs and also brought one in to add to the nine-run lead.

Hall scored four runs and brought in an impressive five runs with her fourth homerun on the season.

Paige Zender (Iowa State) scored two runs and with her 14th home run, brought in three runs as well.

Snippes, Birling, Teale, Serena Timmer (University of Minnesota-Duluth), and Grace Leitheiser (Bryant and Stratton College) all scored a run to add to the huge win for the Habaneros.

Joscelyn Bennett scored her first home run in tonight’s game as she scored two runs and brought in two as well.

It was quite a historic day for the Mankato Habaneros as they not only got two more wins on the season, but they can now call themselves the Inaugural 2024 Northwoods League Softball Champions.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
