MANKATO, MN – We are now just days away from the start of the season and the newest addition to the team is adding to the excitement. Adrianna Young is a junior from St. Thomas University and is looking to bring her promising skill and achievements to the Habaneros lineup.

In high school, Young received the Golden Glove Award, she was a four-year varsity starter, first-team All-Conference in 2021, second-team All-Conference in 2019, led team in home runs, and selected as a senior team captain. She also posted a .492 batting average, a .562 on-base percentage, and a .836 slugging percentage. As a freshman Tommie, she played in nine games, making four starts, batted .375 with a .583 OBP, and slugged at a clip of .375. That year she also earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and was a Summit League Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Her sophomore season, Young played in nine games, making five starts, batted .333 with a .429 OBP, and slugged at a clip of .417. She recorded three RBIs, tallied six runs and four base hits, tallied a .958 fielding percentage with 22 putouts. This past season was just as impressive, if not more so. She played in career-high 19 games and started in career-high 12. She hit .241/.343/.345 in career-high 29 at-bats, tallied seven hits with three doubles for 10 total bases, all career-high marks. She scored five runs and earned a career-high four runs batted in, walked career-high five times and was struck out 10, recorded 35 putouts, seven assists, and one runner caught stealing with a .977 fielding percentage behind home plate.

With a total of 71 putouts and an average fielding percentage of .976 over the course of her three years as a Tommie, Young is quite the promising addition to the Habaneros lineup. Her impressive defensive skills, combined with her offensive capabilities, highlight her as a well-rounded player who can contribute significantly to both ends of the game.

Leveraging the 30-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) will be the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League beginning play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024.  The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play.  Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
