
MADISON, WIS. – The Mankato Habaneros closed out their road series with a 12-1 loss to the Madison Night Mares in a five-inning contest on Thursday afternoon at Warner Park.
Madison took control early, scoring three runs in the first inning before adding four more in the second. The Night Mares broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, finishing with 12 runs on 12 hits.
The Habaneros were held to three hits. Bella Louvar (Des Moines Area CC) and Joscelyn Bennett (Southwest Baptist University) each collected singles, while Valerie VanZant (University of Minnesota – Crookston) drove in Mankato’s lone run with an RBI single in the fifth after Katy Olive (Miami University – OH) reached and stole second.
Kylinn Stangl (University of Minnesota) started in the circle for the Habaneros, pitching four innings with two strikeouts.
The Habaneros return home to continue Northwoods League action at ISG Field on Friday for a doubleheader against La Crosse Steam at 5:05 pm and 7:35 pm.

Leveraging the 32-year success of the Northwoods League, the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League, Northwoods League Softball (NWLS) is the first for-profit Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball League that began play in the Upper Midwest in the summer of 2024. The purpose of the League will be to develop players for their college, Olympic and future professional play. Teams will be promoted similar to minor league baseball teams, playing games in front of fans in a fun, friendly, family-oriented environment.
