Grand Forks, ND – The Grand Forks Spitfires are proud to announce the signing of their second player in franchise history and this one hits close to home.
Makenna Alexander, a utility player from the University of North Dakota and a native of West Fargo, ND, will take the field at Albrecht Field this summer as part of the Spitfires’ inaugural season.
A sophomore at UND majoring in Commercial Aviation, Alexander brings a strong connection to the region, making her signing a meaningful moment for the organization and the Grand Forks community. With local ties and collegiate experience, fans will have the opportunity to watch one of their own compete this summer.
“I am super excited to play with the Spitfires this summer and bring some Northwoods League excitement to Grand Forks!” said Alexander.
Alexander brings a well-rounded and impactful game to the Spitfires roster. During the 2026 season so far, she recorded 30 hits, 20 runs scored, and 16 RBIs, along with an impressive .452 slugging percentage. Her ability to consistently produce at the plate makes her a strong offensive addition. Defensively, she has proven to be just as reliable, recording a .972 fielding percentage in 2026. Her versatility and ability to make plays across the infield add valuable depth to the Spitfires lineup.
“This is a really special signing for us,” said Gabby Knopik, Sponsorship Activation & Marketing Manager for the Spitfires. “Makenna represents what this team is all about; high-level competition and creating something the community can truly connect with. Having a player from right here in North Dakota makes this even more exciting as we build momentum toward our inaugural season.”
Alexander will join the Spitfires for their inaugural 2026 season, with Opening Night set for June 9 at Albrecht Field.
