Four Ignite become Inaugural All-Star Game Champions

MADISON, WI. – Four Ignite players took part in the Inaugural Northwoods League Softball All-Star game and Home run challenge. Claire Calmes (UW-Madison), Mia Johnson (UW-Parkside), Zoey Mills (EFSC), and Marley Teasley (Washington) were the four representatives for Wausau in Madison. The crew took part in the East vs West game, and Teasley was one of eight players to participate in the Home Run Challenge.

Highlights

  • Marley Teasley was the lone representative from Wausau in the Home Run Challenge and faced an 8-person bracket including four Maddison Nightmare players. Teasley crushed 7 home runs in her first-round battle against Mattison Kwarta (San Diego State) of Grand Forks. Tealey’s 7 was not enough to pass on to the next round, and Kwarta would go on to win the challenge.
  • In the All-Star Game, the East defence by the two Ignite middle infielders was fantastic. Both Calmes and Teasley put on shows at their known positions at second base and shortstop, including a Claire Calmes diving grab in the seventh inning that would limit extra runs from coming across.
  • In Mia Johnson’s second all-star selection and Marley Teasley’s first, both had identical batting lines with a single and an RBI contributing to the 11-10 walk-off win for the East.
  • The Northwoods leader in wins and complete games, Zoey Mills, only allowed one run in her appearance in the game. The All-Star appearance was Mills’ third time pitching in three days following their three-game series against Mankato on Thursday’s DH and Friday.
