MADISON, WI- The La Crosse Steam fall to the Madison Night Mare 14-6 in front of 572 fans at Warner Park.

Steam starter Mackenzie Willis pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. On the other side, Night Mares starter Kendall Weik lasted 2.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits.

The Night Mares scored consistently through the first four innings. Hilary Blomberg’s RBI single in the 1st inning put them on the board, followed by a ground-out RBI by Carly Oliver in the 2nd. Kayla Thomas added a sacrifice fly in the 3rd, and another RBI single by Carly Oliver in the 4th extended their lead.

La Crosse took the lead in the 3rd inning with a five-run outburst. Aliyah Langrehr scored on an error by catcher Hilary Blomberg. Teagan Graul then hit an RBI single driving in Lindsey Schultz. The highlight of the inning came when Avary Makarewicz hit a three-run homer, making the score 5-2 in favor of the Steam.

Madison answered back decisively in the 5th and 6th innings. In the 5th, Danielle Lucey scored on an error by Steam center fielder Rachel Mori. Sydney Jones followed with an RBI single, Hilary Blomberg hit a two-RBI double, and Lexie Shaver added an RBI single. In the 6th, Carly Oliver hit a three-run home run, and Hilary Blomberg added an RBI double, bringing the score to 14-5.

The Steam attempted a comeback in the top of the 7th inning, scoring once on an Avary Makarewicz RBI single to center. However, they ultimately fell short, concluding the game with a final score of Madison Night Mares 14, La Crosse Steam 6.

With this loss, the Steam’s record falls to 1-2, while the Night Mares improve to 2-1. The Steam will return to Copeland Park for a doubleheader against Madison tomorrow, with the first game scheduled to start at 5:05 p.m.
