MINOT, ND – Sophomore shortstop Siera Hoekstra and redshirt junior third baseman Shayna Myshrall will be coming to Minot this summer to play with the Minot Honeybees softball team in the team’s inaugural season.
Hoekstra, a sophomore hailing from Overland Park, Kansas, has spent the past two years playing shortstop for the Wichita State Shockers. She played in 18 games in her sophomore season and starting in 8 games with her first career start being against Sam Houston in the 2023-2024 season. She has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll twice and earned American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors in her freshman year.
In her high school career at Shawnee Mission North High School, Hoekstra was a starter for 4 years and a captain for 2 years. In her junior year, she batted .484. She was named to the All-Conference second team and earned an All-State honorable mention. She also played for the KC Attack in 2018, when the club team won a national title, and Hoekstra was named Tournament MVP. In addition to softball, she played varsity basketball.
“I’m looking forward to getting some valuable reps and exposure this summer,” said Hoekstra. “I’m excited to learn from some different coaches and meet new people. It should be a fun summer!”
As of May 19, 2024, Hoekstra has entered the transfer portal with two remaining years of eligibility. She has not yet announced a commitment.
Myshrall will be joining the Honeybees following 5 seasons at Niagara University. Also in her freshman year, she scored the team’s only homerun of the season. In April of 2020, she earned Student-Athlete of the Week honors and was named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.
Before playing for the Niagara Purple Eagles, Myshrall – a Syracuse, NY native – played at Jamesville-DeWitt High School, where she led her team to the NYS Regionals game in her senior year. Batting a .452 average, Myshrall hit 12 home runs, 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 46 RBIs while in high school. She earned NYSPHSAA Section III Class A Champion honors four times, League Player of the Year four times, All-CNY selection four times, and All-State selection three times. In addition to her high school achievements, she also started at third base for the Conklin Raiders Gold travel team, which was nationally ranked during her time on the team.
Outside of playing college ball, Myshrall is a softball instructor for the Sports Yard and has been a private hitting, pitching, and fielding coach since 2019.
“After finishing a great season at Niagara, I’m enjoying a couple of weeks off to rest up for the upcoming season with the Honeybees,” said Myshrall. “I’m really looking forward to competing and honing my skills, both at the plate and in the field. I plan to use the summer season to kick-start my last year of college ball!”
