A Hawaiian Night celebration at Corbett Field was cut short as the Madison Night Mares run-ruled the Minot Honeybees, 12-0 in five innings.

For Madison, Thursday’s game got off to a bit slower start on the scoreboard, but don’t be mistaken, their bats were working from the first pitch. After leaving two on the bases in the first inning, the Night Mares would bring in the game’s first run on a bases-loaded walk, but would leave the bags full afterwards in the second.

Minot did not respond with a run in the bottom of the second, so the Night Mares were given a chance to extend their new lead. With the help of a solo home run from Ella Stephenson and another bases-loaded walk plus error, Madison jumped ahead 4-0.

Stephenson’s great day at the plate was far from over and in the following inning, the fourth, she would homer again, improving the lead to 7-0. The long ball was Stephenson’s fourth of the series alone and fifth of the summer. In all, Madison would score eight in the fourth inning to go up 12-0.

The Honeybees never got comfortable against Night Mares starter Kendall Weik. The second-year Northwoods League pitcher finished off a complete five innings with three hits allowed and no runs. That wasn’t the only impressive part of her statline, Weik would strike out six and walk none to cap it off.

A scoreless fifth inning for both sides brought about the end of the game before a full seven innings. The Night Mares trip to Minot was an extremely successful one, winning all three games played at Corbett. The 12-0 loss drops the Honeybees to 7-7 on the season with a road trip to La Crosse coming up next.

Carly Cummings was a multi-award winner on Thursday, taking home First Command Play of the Game with a home run robbery in the first inning and that helped her achieve SportClips MVP as well. The Honeybees did not draw a Buffalo Wild Wings Walk against Kendall Weik, who had the SRT Fastest Pitch of the night at 62 mph.
