The Minot Honeybees took their show on the road to La Crosse, Wisconsin for the first time this season on Tuesday. The road trip started out just fine for the Bees, defeating the La Crosse Steam 8-1 behind a Pitcher of the Night performance from Jackie Albrecht.

It would be the Steam striking first with a run in the opening inning. From there, however, it was all Honeybees.

Minot’s first scoring play would happen in the third inning when Virginia Mambelli crushed a three-run home run. The round-tripper put the Honeybees ahead 3-1. Taylor Chillingworth extended the lead with a lead-off home run in the fourth inning and the Bees pulled further ahead on an Olivia Lenzen RBI in the fifth inning.

While the Honeybee offense was heating up, so was Jackie Albrecht inside the circle. After the run-scoring first inning, Albrecht kept the Steam scoreless for the remainder of the night. She tossed all seven innings, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.

The home run derby wasn’t done yet. In the sixth inning, Makenna Alexander launched a solo home run, her first of the summer. Minot added two more runs in the seventh inning for good measure, making the score 8-1 in favor of the Bees.

The two-game road trip is off to a great start for the Honeybees who will go for a second series sweep of the Steam on Wednesday.

Jackie Albrecht was named SportClips MVP for her quality start. Virginia Mambelli was also honored as the Northwoods League Player of the Night, going 3-for-4 with her home run as the highlight. The Honeybees drew two Buffalo Wild Wings Walks.
