HONEYBEES ARE SEEING SUCCESS BUT PUSHING FOR PLAYOFFS

Honeybees hit their stride at home with eyes on playoff spot

With Monday’s win over the Wausau Ignite, the Minot Honeybees have already eclipsed last year’s win total. The 11-8 Honeybees sit in second place of the Northwoods League Softball standings. For the players and staff, this season’s success does not come as a surprise.

After the win over Wausau head coach Craig Montvidas echoed the team’s mantra, “I like where we are at, but there are still things to work on to get better.” It’s been like that all season for the Honeybees, a team determined on finding their very best.

In the midst of a six-game homestand, the pieces are coming together nicely for the Bees. The pitching staff is back to being intact, the clutch hits have been there when needed, and the wins are noticeably rolling in.

Jackie Albrecht added another Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night performance to her resume on Monday, shutting out the Ignite over the final three innings to earn a save. The day before, Julianna Verni struck out a franchise-record 11 batters against Mankato.

Pitching has led the way, but the offense is coming along with a whole team approach. Following a three-RBI game, Makenna Alexander spoke of her approach at the plate, “I was looking for the best pitch to hit and one that would help our team.”

It’s all about the team for these Bees.

The Honeybees are feeling good after crossing the 10-win plateau, but the focus moves on to what’s next: a playoff spot. Minot is in postseason position at the moment, but the upcoming second half of the season will decide the fate of the league’s five teams.

Watch the Honeybees in the rest of the 5-game series at home tonight (July 8) and tomorrow (July 9) against the Wausau Ignite (6-14).
