Tuesday night’s doubleheader had everything but a Minot Honeybees loss. A 10-2 win over the Wausau Ignite was followed by a 4-3 victory to extend Minot’s win streak to five games, a franchise record.

Bella Cimino and Taylor Chillingworth got the bats going in the second inning with solo home runs each. The Honeybees would add on two more runs in the third inning to go up 4-0.

With the lead, pitcher Julianna Verni pitched another gem. She went five innings, allowing two hits and no runs to get the win.

Wausau would score late, but a three-run sixth inning by the Bees kept the game out of reach. Minot took game one by a 10-2 final.

Game two was a much closer matchup. The Honeybees manufactured a run in the first inning on a Cimino RBI sacrifice fly. The Ignite found an answer in the third inning, scoring on a passed ball.

Early in the game, the starting pitchers worked their way out of jams. Jackie Albrecht for Minot would leave five Wausau runners on base over five innings. The only trouble she would encounter was in her final inning inside the circle. Wausau put traffic on the bases early and cashed in a run on a Brooklyn Hofer base hit. An error plated the go-ahead run and the pressure was on the Honeybees to come back.

There wouldn’t be a lot of waiting for Minot to close the one-run deficit. Following a hit by pitch and double, Cimino recorded another sacrifice fly RBI to tie the game and Taylor Chillingworth brought a run home on her own sac fly to give the bees the lead.

Those two scoring plays would do the trick for Minot. Verni returned to the circle to collect a six-out save and the Honeybees hung on to win 4-3.

The series wraps up on Wednesday with a 6:35 pm start time.

Julianna Verni was named SportClips MVP after combining two pitching appearances for seven scoreless innings, a win and a save. Jackie Albrecht fired the SRT Fastest Pitch of 62 mph. Shannon Nelson’s diving stop of a groundball and throw to first was the First Command Play of the Game. The Bees drew seven Buffalo Wild Wings Walks over two games and enjoyed two Sky Dancer Casino Big Wins as well.
