Bohling, Walker, Passatempo Bring Home Conference Honors

Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks, a member of the Northwoods League, are pleased to announce three 2016 Woodchucks have received conference honors.

Gonzaga infielder Jeff Bohling was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Bohling paced the ‘Zags to a share of the WCC regular season title. The redshirt junior hit .301 and slugged .532 with 21 doubles, four triples and a team-leading seven home runs.

Bohling is the first Gonzaga Bulldog to win WCC Player of the Year since St. Louis Cardinals LHP Marco Gonzales won a share of the award in 2013.

Oklahoma outfielder Steele Walker was named to the Big 12 Conference’s Honorable Mention All-Conference and All-Freshman teams.  

Walker has made 52 starts, nearly every game and second-most on the team, in the Sooners’ outfield and accumulated a .289 batting average.

Walker’s 30 RBI are second on the team, and his 16 doubles rank first. He also struck out only 22 times against 19 walks, and stole five bases on five attempts.

UMass Lowell outfielder Steve Passatempo was selected to the America East All-Rookie Team Tuesday evening.

Passatempo served as the Riverhawks’ cleanup hitter this season, a rare role for a freshman, and he rewarded the coaches’ trust by hitting .270 and leading the team with 11 home runs and 46 RBI. His 11 home runs were also second in the conference, and the 46 RBI placed third.
