Walker breaks hitting streak record, goes 5-for-5
Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks (20-29, 7-7 Second Half) dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0, to the Lakeshore Chinooks (21-29, 6-8 Second Half) and split the two-game set at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Steele Walker (Oklahoma) went 5-for-5 in the game with a double to reclaim the Northwoods League's batting average lead, but, more importantly, extended his hitting streak to a Woodchucks all-time record 20 games.
Walker doubled in the first inning to break the record. Zach Arnold, a 2014 Woodchuck, had previously held the record at 19 games. Walker can now set his sights on the Northwoods League record of 32 straight games.
Jared Oliva (Arizona) added two hits, as did Chad Fleischman (Lamar).
Reggie Meyer (Minnesota) turned in a fine performance on the mound, working six scoreless innings with five strikeouts against just one walk.
Degan Harte (Grand Canyon) took the hard-luck loss for the Woodchucks.
